Amanda -

You know that thing you gave us before about magic and magical sources and everything? It said magical abilities could be inherited through family lines. I was just wondering, if that's the case, getting it from your parents, does that make a person more...I don't know...susceptible to a certain type of magic? So, say, a person's mother practiced dark magic, and passed on the ability to her daughter, would the daughter be more likely to turn to dark magic?

Does the question even make any sense? It sounds a bit stupid now that I've actually typed it out...

Looks like someone's been doing some thinking...

Like all questions about magic, there's not one simple answer. But while there's some types of magic that do carry through the family line more strongly than others, like healing for example, having someone in your family who is a dark practitioner doesn't automatically condemn you to being one yourself.

But. (and there's always a but, isn't there?)

If the family line has been practicing a certain type of magic for generations, it does get kind of soaked into the genes, as it were. It does mean that particular type of magic is easier for people of that bloodline (like healing is for mine, for example), and there might be a tendency towards that particular path, especially if the family is pushing you that way. But again, there's that free will thing, and if someone doesn't want to turn to a particular path, they don't necessarily have to. Again with the hard work and needing support and healthy magical influences, but no-one's fated to go one way or another.

Hope that helps. We can talk about it more next lesson, if you like - it's something Nico especially has a handle on.

A.
