Emails to Nathan's Mandarin and Hindi classes

Subject: plan for this afternoon
I'd been saving this, but today strikes me as a good day. Instead of doing the usual, we're going to watch 'The Emperor's Shadow'. It's a Chinese historical film (in Mandarin with English subtitles) that I thought you all might like, about the first emperor of the Qin dynasty. It's almost two hours long, so it'll take us the next two classes. Then we'll look at the historical background and discuss why the film was banned twice in China before the censors allowed it to be shown.
Someone want to bring popcorn?

I know we were supposed to be learning about the six schools of Hindu philosophy today, but I think we'll leave that for Wednesday. Instead, we'll take advantage of the satellite TV and watch the news on Doordarshan, India's public broadcasting channel.
