Subject: Proper Etiquette for Emergency Situations

Prezado Sr/a.,

Sirs, I have been increasingly concerned about the lack of formal education given to new students in how to properly handle powers-related incidents. This is not to openly criticize the current structure — I found the tour and additional information to be pleasant, informative reading — but instead to suggest that the School reconsiders how it addresses potential crisis situations of the mundane powers variety.

I speak, of course, of the precognitive incident I experienced with Miss Colbert. While I am sufficient to the task of first aid, I feel as though I was not properly equipped to handle the situation if it had progressed into a full epileptic fit or past controllable auto-writing levels. Miss Colbert has been with the mansion for some time, as I understand, so events like these are likely more common than not.

It also strikes me as problematic that every new person I encounter seems to downplay the imminent danger that they claim hovers over the school. I expect that there are proper channels and systems in place to deal with these situations (and the evacuation information included in the new student booklet/training was most welcome), but none of these were on the tour.

I apologize if I have somehow missed these items in formal writing, but the best weapon is preparation.

Atenciosamente,
Namor, Marques de McKenzie, Heir Apparent to the Dukedom of Thakkor

Mr. Mazur-

I apologize for the delay in response. Due to the variety of powers on campus and the fact many of the residents are still discovering their scope it is not always possible to predict if a certain ability will cause a problem and therefor very difficult to form specific contingency plans. Ms. Colbert's fits, for example, are rarely more than odd and require no intervention, while one of our previous staff members with that ability would sometimes have telekinetic involvement as well. If you ever find yourself in a position which you feel similarly unequipped, please call the Medlab for one of the doctors. They have access to medical histories as well as their training to rely on and would be well equipped to assist you. If you feel there is true danger and do not feel you have time to find help or reach an intercom, make use of the emergency button on your cell and staff will respond immediately. Additionally, we have enough telepaths on hand that a direct "call" for help will usually be heard.

Though we do our best to make the school a safe environment, its existence courts a number of issues due to both the outside world and the complications of so many diversely powered individuals living in one place, particularly those with difficult backgrounds who often have nowhere else to go. Many residents aware of the degree of risk in living here prefer to use humor to deal with their concerns. I suppose you could call that tendency a kind of informal etiquette. As for actual procedure, it is basically identical to any powers or medical emergencies you may encounter: call for help. As with powers, there is often no way to predict what might happen and therefor no way to make more than a basic plan.

While I know this does not sound reassuring, the staff and the team are trained to rapidly assess and react to dangerous situations. Students are also taught to work together and help one another in the event of an emergency so if there is no authority figure readily available they are prepared as best they are able.

I hope this answers some of your concerns. If you have further questions please ask myself or the professor.
