Charles,
How're you? I know it's only been a few months since I told you I was thinking of taking early retirement, but after you said that there was a job with you waiting for me if I decided to do it, I found myself thinking about the idea more and more, and well, I put things in motion a month or two back, and I'm now officially retired as of last week. And I know it's short notice, but I thought I'd see if that offer was still good.
I'm coming over your way in a week or so anyway - I could stand a bit of time away from this old keep of mine - and Theresa's probably had enough time to calm down from the last time we saw each other by now, so I'm at least going to take a holiday over there, but I thought that if you were still looking for another History teacher, I might just pack a bag for a wee bit more than a week, and see if she and I can't learn to talk to each other properly.
Hope you're well, and the kids aren't running you too ragged,
Sean.

Hello, Sean; wonderful to hear from you, and congratulations on your retirement. Don't worry about the short notice. You'll find, once you've stayed here for any length of time, that short notice is rather more the rule than the exception; please feel free to infer from this that the job offer is indeed still open.
Would you prefer to tell Theresa yourself, or leave it to me?
Charles

Well, I'm glad I'm fitting in from the off, then. It'll take me a few days to get things packed up this end, but I should be over with you sometime next Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on when I can get flights.
I'm half-tempted to just surprise her, but I'm not that'd be wise. I'll email Theresa directly.
