The following letter is included with it:
My dearest Hope,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. Your father and mother have spoken to me about the exciting journey you are currently under taking, though I imagine they have left many things unspoken to protect this fragile old mind. From the location of your current school I have deduced many of them though.
I know you will conduct yourself as befits a lady, Hope, but I hope these gifts will aide you in your path. You know as well as I do that being a lady is not just appearances, but also the state of your heart. The first gift will help you with the appearance though. I received a similar table when I was your age and I hope it will serve as an external reminder of what you strive to be.
The second gift fits with this also. The comb, brush and mirror were given to me on my marriage day by my husband. I had hoped to pass them on to you on the day when your heart would be given away, but this time seems to be calling to me. I would ask you to take a look at the engravings…
Though these virtues may seem ancient or old-fashioned, they form a good start for an inner lady. Love those around you… Have faith in the people entrusted to guide you… And hope others who love you will see you from whom you truly are…
I will always stand at your side…
Your beloved grandmother Hannah
Inside the carved box is a silver brushed engraved with the word FAITH, a silver comb with the word LOVE and a hand mirror with the word HOPE.
