So, my ward is part of this... club I guess you'd call it. We've kind of taken to calling it Underground Mutant Battle League. If you're familiar with a cartoon show called Avatar: Legend of something it is similar to something on there called ProBending. Basically it's this floating sport arena where mutants compete against each other with their powers. They have different events tailored to different types of mutations, such as boxing-type matches for healers or those with location-sensory powers, or points-based ranged-attack competitions for those with ranged powers. Competitors are encouraged to make up personas for themselves and wear costumes if desired. Everything is regulated very strictly for safety. Mutants who know about it can participate or spectate. There is also a contingent of trusted, supportive non-mutants present who enjoy watching mutants compete against one another. The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging for mutants. Gambling is discouraged (though it happens) and incentives for competitors are mainly in the realm of gloating rights and post-game food and drink, but there are monetary prizes at the end of the 'season' for various competitors with the most successful records.
As far as I can discern, the whole thing is meant to be a safe place where mutants can be themselves and use their powers in full view of supportive peers in ways they generally cannot on a daily basis. If you're interested, I can sponsor you (basically send your email address to the email address of the event coordinator who sets up the matches and tells the people involved where the next location is going to be, so they can put your email address on the mailing list) so you can come check it out?
Feel free to tell your friends.
