Hi, I think I grabbed everyone that was interested in going. I got the permits for next weekend August 12-14th. We are going to be hiking from Maine back down here again. If that is too far, there are multiple ways of exiting the park/trail. Cell phone service can be a bit spotty in these parts so make sure you plan ahead of time. We plan on leaving Thursday Night, staying in a motel nearby, and then getting an early start on the trail. If you like to join, than you are more than welcome to do so. Or if you like to join us on the trail, we are planning on being there before 8am. Lots of ground to cover and things to see.
There are a list of items you need to provide for yourself:
-Sleeping Bag
- Backpack
-Change of clothes (this is not necessary, but do bring a change of socks. At least three pairs)
- Heavy jacket or sweater (it gets cold at night)
- Water bottles (at least two and filled up with water before we start)
- Meals and snacks
- Flash lights
- Extra batteries
- Sunscreen
- Insect repellant
- Tarp or Tent
- Plate, fork, cup, and possible a cooking pot
- Camera (if you want to take pictures)
Remember, you will be carrying this so if you don't need it than don't bring it. The less you carry the better you will be.
Now, if you don't have these items. Alex and I have extra backpacks (I think we have at least 3, Two Smalls and one Large), and at least 2 more sleeping bags. We will also be bring the majority of the food but we would like it if the load can be shared among us. I put meals and snacks on the list above if you have a dietary need that we cannot provide.
We will also be providing water purifiers and tablets so we can refill our bottles, and we have a large tarp. We won't be bring a tent but if you would like one you'll have to bring your own (our last one had a fight with a bear). We will also have the matches, some more cooking items, a map of the trail including all the exit points and of course a first aid kit.
I look forward to this trip and I hope you are too. If you have any more questions please feel free to email me back or come find me.
