"Huge upheaval from Beijing tonight. Reigning world champion Eudoxia Kalugin has been disqualified after testing positive for the X-gene. A two time world champion, Kalugin's combined program score of of 268 had her clearly in the lead for Olympic gold. Under current ISU rules, Kalugin's lack of disclosure prior to the event automatically disqualifies her from the remainder of the competition and potentially endangers both of her existing titles. International Skating Union officials are expected to meet tomorrow to determine the next steps from the group on Kalugin. If they decide Kalugin intentionally hid her mutation or used it for an edge in competition, she faces a potential permanent ban from all ISU governed events, including future Olympics."
