Arthur, I had the strangest encounter this week. I met a young man named Billy Kaplan and it just feels like I know that name from somewhere. People like you and me do not believe in coincidences and that is not a common name.

Would you mind doing some digging for me? The Billy I met will be coming to the mansion at some point and I would rather not have another nasty surprise pop up from the woodwork.

Billy Kaplan, huh? Sounds an awful lot like a kid who used to bunk downstairs. Willy Chaplin, maybe? Nice kid, a little chaotic, but kept the kitchen sparkling like magic. Funny story: I got blamed for one or two of his tricks myself when I first showed up. He also went by Asgaridan – a way better stage name, if you ask me. Really into Thor.

I’ll see if luck’s on my side and dig up a little background before your Billy shows up at the mansion.

Turns out we’ve got ourselves two Billies. I ran the name through the usual circuits: background checks, old DX contacts, a couple of folks in the Underground who still owe me favors. The Billy Kaplan we knew? Everything lines up . . . right up until it doesn’t.

When he wasn't at the mansion? Nothing at all. No flat, no bank trail, not even a neighbor who swears they saw him buying milk. It’s like he turned up, had a laugh, and then just folded his whole life into a neat little square, tucked it in his pocket, and walked offstage. Proper disappearing act.

As for that other Kaplan in Jersey? Just a regular kid. Nice family, nothing odd. Same name, different story.
