Emails from Doc Strange to Cain; Charles.

Dear Mr Marko,
My apologies for the delay in contacting you - I have
a tendency to become caught up in my research and your
case proved most frustrating from that end. There are
several references in various cultures to a creature
or creatures known as The Destroyer, however it
appears to be a generic self-imposed title for demons
who wish to appear more fearsome than they in fact
are. The Vietnam connection has helped me narrow it
down somewhat, however it may be of assistance to me
if we had the chance to meet so I could get a feel for
the situation first hand. If this is amenable to you,
please let me know when would be a convenient time. It
appears I may be required to visit the school on other
matters, so there would be no need for you to come to
New York unless you wish to.
Miss Sefton also told me you have concerns for
confidentiality. I would like to take this opportunity
to assure you that anything you tell me, or have told
me through my student, shall remain in strictest
confidence.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Stephen Strange.

Dear Professor,
Last night I received a somewhat garbled phone message
from Miss Sefton, but I was able to glean from it that
Miss Rasputin is now recovered sufficiently to be
allowed out of your medical facilities. I would like
to take the chance to request that I may attend the
school and speak to the young lady about the events of
the other week, in particular this sword that has been
mentioned and the incident with the demon bowing down
to her. I must confess, I am concerned for what
implications these events might have.
My researches into the demon lord Belasco, the one who
kidnapped the young lady originally, revealed a
particular series of rites called bloodstone rituals.
These involved the sacrificing of portions of one's
soul to create certain stones of power, called
bloodstones. Traditionally, when the correct number of
stones was made, Belasco would take them and use the
power for himself. If Miss Rasputin was the subject of
such rituals, her return to this dimension and
apparent rule over the inhabitants of Limbo implies
that she has harnessed this power for herself, and as
such, I fear for the nature of her humanity.
Of course, all this is mere conjecture. With your
permission, I would like to meet with the young lady
in question and settled the question. It may be there
is nothing to fear, in which case I can explain to my
student that she has no reason to continue her warding
of her room, which is taxing her greatly. If there is
something there, then forewarned is forearmed, and we
may be able to work together to remove the influence
of Limbo from her, or at least assist her in
controlling it.
Yours sincerely,
Stephen Strange.

Stephen,
You are of course welcome to visit Amanda at any time, and I feel sure she would find your presence a comfort after the trials of recent days.
However, I trust you realize that where Illyana Rasputin is concerned, Amanda's is not an objective viewpoint; having seen nothing in Illyana's behavior that warrants 'fear for the nature of her humanity,' I'm afraid I must insist that any interview be conducted with her full foreknowledge and consent. If she declines to speak with you, I will still be very interested in any information you can provide regarding Limbo; demons are, thankfully, still a step or two beyond even this school's definition of unusual.
Cordially,
Charles Xavier

Date: 2004-10-26 04:13 am (UTC)Believe me when I say I know precisely how unobjective Amanda's viewpoint is - I spent the bulk of the night following the most recent incident trying to calm her down. Her personal history does not lend itself well to handling the situation. I also respect Miss Rasputin's rights to privacy, and that you act for her best interests in this.
However, perhaps I was not fully clear. I have been researching this Limbo place and its overlord for the past six months, and the information I have been able to accumulate is of the utmost concern. I have also been meeting with Miss Rasputin regularly after the Asgard business, although those meetings were curtailed by the recent attack on her person. She has some kind of occult power, and I have found in my experience with that type of power, that it is always wise to determine just what that power is and where it comes from. The effects are not always immediate, nor are they obvious.
I will contact the young lady in question and seek to speak with her. If she declines, I will respect her wishes and yours and not pursue the matter any further. I have attached all the information I have so far gathered on Belasco and Limbo (ignore the pretenious references to Dante - this demon lord is something of a diva, it appears), including the information relating to the two pervious girls he has abducted before.
Sincerely,
Stephen.
