Just got your reply on the journal, and there was something else I wanted to add, but couldn't in a public forum.
You're a highly intelligent young woman. There are others equally intelligent in the school. There are, however, also many who are not, who would see expressions like 'rooted in the school' as meaning there was some sort of plague imminent and who would become already more panicked than they may already be. There are also the younger children to consider, since they too have access to that journal.
I was trying to do as much damage control as possible, under fairly stressful conditions. I wish you'd come to me directly or via email with your theories - hell, the more ideas being thrown around, the better - rather than suggesting them in a forum where I'm restricted by various factors, including patient confidentiality, in my ability to answer them. It isn't a matter of treating you or any other student like a child, it's about trying to ensure Hank gets the help he needs. And that includes trying to give him as much peace of mind about his condition and about the welfare of you kids as possible. He's worried sick about how this is going to effect you guys, and I've been trying to tell him you'll be fine. That necessarily won't be the case if wild rumours about plague vectors and the like start flying around.
Again, I'm sorry for my tone - I haven't slept since Friday, and that was only for five hours, before my classes. If you have any more theories or questions, please feel free to bring them to me, preferably privately where I can answer them properly without confusing or frightening others.
Madelyn.
