She's arrogant. She lays out a challenge like that and expects to just walk away with a smile and a laugh? I don't think so.
I can't teach her if she won't empty her teacup first so I can fill it.
I don't need to get fancy, and I'm not going to break her physically. Much. But she _needs to understand_ that _she knows nothing_.
She might think she does, but she's an ignorant little girl. My job is to turn that ignorant little girl into someone who can keep herself and her team-mates alive in a pinch.

Bravado is her modus operandi still, most of the time. She forget to rely on it sometimes though - just sometimes. Still, why do you think I put her through the hours of silence thing until she stopped trying to talk through it and started to work on the meditation? I just let her work up to it.
And I'm hardly the best at hand to hand, but still - no denting. She's hardly full scale team and she's just starting out in traineedom. Sparring can be done without denting and heck... keeping to the basics and using nothing else would be the best way to get that point across. Along with the not even needing to dent part, too. And then tripping her up with the baby stuff, at that.
Hrm. Course, I'm just saying that from teaching her to meditate.

I have some experience with bravado. I should be able to break her of that. Who knows, maybe she has some spirit under her exterior!
I won't hurt her. That would be counterproductive. But I am not going to go easy on her, and I am not going to pander to her raging ego.
I didn't with Shiro, and I won't with her. Sabretooth won't go easy on her. Neither will Toad. To go easy on her would be a disservice.
A failure on my part to prepare her for the sorts of Bad People that we're out there putting ourselves on the line to stop.

I'd say make her work her way out of it by her own realization. It'll stick better. It did with me when I had to be jarred out of bravado... not the same as hers, but still. Just a thought.
And I know you won't. But Shiro doesn't have the same background or training as she does, or the same approach - and his is a lot closer to yours, at that and he's done martial arts a lot longer. She does good when she's not set on proving herself right now on the spot just this second, from what I've learned.
And... neither of them are there yet and besides - that particular failure would be a responsiblity for all us. Not just you.

Yes. We do. It's what differentiates us from those who claim not to have any or who just brush it aside.
And part of that difference, that luxury, will be in her knowing it's just that - an opportunity. One from which she can step away and return to a normal life, too, if she ever wants to.
