No, really, I'm in shock.
So, my boss (you know, Dr. Hartstein, the one who's also my supervisor and who got me the job in the lab here, just came to me and told me - he's taken a job at Caltech, and is starting there come September, which I knew, of course, I mean, we all did, and that was too bad, cause he's brilliant, but it's sort of the way things go, only apparently he's been wrangling with the Caltech admissions people, cause when I heard he was going I'd said that it was an incredible school and I'd have loved to go there, only there'd been stuff and all and we'd decided to stay in New York.
But, well, he's just told me that he showed some of my work from last term to the Physics department at Caltech, and got them on his side, and they all but stormed Caltech's admissions office and they've kind of offered me a place in their program, sight unseed, sort of, to start work on a Masters degree and just sort of pick up the credits I still need for the BS on the way.
If I want, he said. If I want to go to Caltech, the greatest science institute in the country.
Only, of course, I don't know that I do want, because, well, we had plans, and you've got the team, and it's only a place for me, and it's Caltech - they do humanities but it's this sort of side ways thing they do to make the geeks and nerds and uber-science brains play better with others. But, at the same time, Pasadena's hardly the middle of nowhere, and there are scads of other schools around, and there's Al and Haroun and the Cali-institute and I don't know, and I'm still kind of hyperventilating about this whole thing because, well, omg my supervisor got me a place at Caltech on the strength of my academics alone without my even freaking applying. Because he thinks I should be there. And he wants to keep working with me. And OMG!
Meeble?
