Scott,
I have spoken with Dani about filling out the necessary paperwork for Logan's dismissal. It should be ready by tomorrow for final perusal and signatures. Why must these things be so complicated? I think I would rather try to buy a house than go through all the hoops necessary to finalize a decision I am not happy with in the first place.
That aside, however, we must look to fill the self-defense position as soon as possible. I will sub for this week while we make a decision, but it will have to happen quickly. Do you have any ideas for who to approach? I must admit, as understaffed as we already are, this seems like a difficult decision.

Subject: slightly ahead of you...
Lorna came to me yesterday suggesting that she and Angelo take over the position jointly. Seems like a good idea to me? Lorna's been teaching for a while now, and has the skill to teach basic self-defense, certainly. As for Angelo, it might be a good 'development' position, for lack of a better description. He's got such a good rapport with the kids.
As for the paperwork and the decision itself... I know you're not happy with it. I'm not happy with the need to have made it in the first place, personally.

Lorna was one of the people I had in mind, actually. I think she would do an excellent job, and Dani has volunteered to take over her basic cooking class should she need the extra time.
Angelo, however... while I do not doubt that he is more than capable, he has quite a few responsibilities already. Surely it would be wise to let him concentrate on those he has already accepted before offering him another (which I am sure he would take, because what would Nate do in that situation?)
I try to tell myself that we were forced into this position, and that only makes me angry for letting myself let that happen. Clearly something needs to change, Scott. I am just not sure what, yet.

About Angelo, I mean. Even asked Lorna if we really wanted to be encouraging his mini-Nate tendencies. But when you stop to think about it, self-defense isn't as much of a time-suck as some of our other classes, and with two of them, the responsibilities would be halved.
I know the point still remains. But there's just something that feels right about this, 'Ro. Angelo is unquestionably one of our big success stories - just look at how far he's come in the last two years - and honestly, we could use as many steadying influences as we can get with the kids these days.
I don't know that we were forced into this position. Logan thought he could handle it, and if we start mistrusting each other I think we may have just as serious a problem. Just of a different sort.

I... cannot disagree that he would be a good influence. And I suppose of all the classes to teach, self-defense is on the low end of the time-sucking scale. But if one more teacher or team member gets overburdened and snaps, I am blaming you. Which is why I think Dani should still take over Lorna's cooking class. It will help share the load.
And I do not know if mistrust is quite the right word... perhaps under-vigilance. Which is not a word at all. Perhaps we ought to hold more office hours.

Subject: my judgement is occasionally a weird thing
I think the most important thing to do is to sound Angelo out on whether he thinks he can add this to his schedule. I do have some faith that he's not actually going to turn into a mini-Nate on us. He's been watching Nathan work himself into the ground for a little too long.
Although I do agree about Dani.
Extra office hours probably wouldn't hurt, but if we do that, it's going to be me doing it. You have your hands full with the team.

Yes, that seems like a logical course of action. And sharing the teaching duties will cut down on the workload as well. Would you like to speak to him about this, or shall I?
Well... if you insist. But only because I think I am getting a permanent hunch from my office chair.

I'll speak to him. He and I have been talking on and off lately, with the training.
I do insist. I should never have let you handle Logan.

That would be wonderful. Let me know what he says - I will be looking over the self-defense curriculum tonight to see where the class should be at. I will also contact Lorna and see if she is amenable to the idea.
And it is fine, I just did not expect it to come about in quite such an... informal manner. I can handle it though, Scott, truly. If people continue to question my ability to do my job, I may just start believing them.

Although that certainly is how it looked, isn't it? I'm sorry. I don't question your ability to handle Logan, I'm just feeling like I'm leaving you with entirely too much of the work these days.

I am sorry, perhaps I am a bit testy as of late. I did not mean to overreact.
And my workload is fine. You are doing more than enough, and as long as we can keep all the students and staff from running off and doing anything stupid in the next month, I will be quite able to handle things. I like the work, and to be honest, I do not know what I would do with any more free time. Though perhaps I could take up the drums and we could start our own band.

Right now I would be glad of any excuse to hit things... drumsticks or not. I will have to check with the horses first to see if you are good enough for our band, but I like that idea.

Kenny G. Kenny G. I know we're both on the skinny side, but damn.
You know what we ought to do? Lock ourselves in one of our suites and have a bad movie night. All of the stress release, none of the bruised hands you get from hitting things.

The stress is obviously getting to me. I do not know how I could possibly manage to draw any sort of connection between you and he who must not be named. I blame late-night infomericals.
Bad movie night? With popcorn? And drinking games? Count me in.

Okay. Done now. And movie night - yes, dammit. Although I may inflict something particularly awful on you JUST for the Kenny G crack.
