Hey 'Mara, saw you were back in the States from the journals. How're things in Nova Roma? Need any help?

I just got back from a job in England, and while I was there, I did a bit more poking around. I've got a... well "reason" lets him off the hook, so we'll go with "explanation" for your dad being a twat. Seems he's gotten into politics since leave the diplomatic service, and he's involved in some anti-mutant groups. Nothing as heavy as the FOH, more along the lines of registration and segregation than flat out extermination or depowering. "Keeping our kids safe" sort of bollocks.

It probably won't help much, but yeah, I'd guess that's why the sudden turnaround. Man makes a point of getting up and talking about how mutants need to be kept among their own sort - doesn't look good if his own daughter is one, does it?

Any way, if you want to talk or whatever, you've got my number and I'm back in New York for the foreseeable.

Hey there,

You don't know me, but I used to be one of the students at Xavier's and now I'm working in New York. I saw you talking about body art and piercings and the like - if you're curious, I know a bloke who works well with mutants and I can probably talk to you about piercing and why you get it and the rest, seeing how at one point I had the GNP of a small African nation's worth of metal in my face. ;)

Also, Kyle forgot to mention, tongue piercings aren't just fun for guys. They work well on girls too. Just saying.

Actually, I was kinda bugged by this after my "conversation" with the boys, so I got one right away. Now, I got a sweet black pearl in the middle of my tongue. I'll show you, if you want.

Oh, there's a few rebels here and there, even at the school. You just have to pick 'em. Unfortunately, they're the ones who don't use the journals so much.

Unfortunately, I'm not as pierced as I used to be - my job means I have to look respectable sometimes - but I'm happy to show and tell what I do have. You know a place called Silver's at all? It's a mutant-friendly nightclub in New York. Most of the mansion folks know it, if you wanted to meet up sometime.

Heard of Silver's but never been there, but I'm all about going more mainstream. The bouncer came over at my office (aka Harry's) once, he said my place looks like a shit hole. So feel free to take me out anytime.

Kyle's powers kind of keep him on the straight and narrow - enhanced senses are a bitch to maintain, apparently. I should introduce you to Monet; she ought to entertain you and she's invulnerable to boot.

Harry's is all right for what it is - a pub. Silver's is a nightclub, so there's a world of difference. I have a student on Friday night, so that's out, how about Saturday? I can meet you there.

Welcome home. I haven't been back in the country too long myself. Nova Roma is - well, people aren't frightened anymore, and a lot of them want to go home. Angelo has been a great help in getting things moving, Elpis' contacts within Brazil and with other aid organizations have been invaluble. There are some people choosing to stay, my father included, but I think this is the end of Nova Roma.

Thanks you for the information about my birth father. That certainly does help to explain his reaction, though I'm not sure it makes it any easier to understand. I suppose I would not have done much to change his opinion of mutants, with everything that happened.

I think I would like to talk, if you have the time. It has been a long while since we've had a chance to catch up.
