That's actually why I asked if you'd mind. You, Layla and Molly are all familiar with the school and each other (and, for the most part, your powers). Both Hope and Tandy are not only still settling in, but not entirely used to their mutations. I would much rather see them with someone already established then thrown in alone together -- and you also have a power that can be used for immediate communication in the event of an emergency.

Besides, they're your peers. And I think Hope in particular could benefit from your influence.

Maddie-

You are better equipped to deal with their particular powers issues, should they arise. Layla and Molly's powers are either physical or largely passive. While no one expects you to handle any potential powers-issues by yourself, you do have the ability to call for help regardless of whether or not there's a phone functional or within reach.

Hope has had a very different upbringing than most, and I think that is one of the factors contributing to her stress. I think she could benefit from the presence of a direct peer who has a different range of social experience. She is also still becoming acclimated to her powers, and I noticed that she seems marginally more reassured by the presence of other psionic-types. It won't necessarily mean you're automatically compatible, but you will at least have some common ground.

Think of it this way: You know how some parents give their kids a goldfish to teach them about responsibility? You can consider this something similar. But easier, since it doesn't involve daily feedings and they'll clean their own areas.

Wait. Me as the responsible one? No offense, but are you high? I'm totally the one who'd kill the class hamster, or a goldfish. I'd probably end up killing her too and that would be really really bad.

Layla is totally more responsible. She'd be a great fish mommy.

Hence another reason to make the responsibility an autonomous human being. I'm fairly certain you couldn't kill one unless you were actively making the attempt, in which case there would need to be a Discussion.

Additionally, it's worth remembering that all training, especially in the area of telepathy, requires a certain showing of responsibility on behalf of the student in question before the staff feel confident they are ready for training more advanced than basic control and defense, much like someone isn't allowed to acquire a driver's license before they've demonstrated an understanding of the rules of the road - regardless of how proficient they were on their road test. All thing considered, I believe this small concession would demonstrate to us you are, if not as responsibly-inclined as some others, at least willing to make the effort.

And in recognition of your sacrifice, should you accept I am willing to buy you a meal, including sides and dessert, from a restaurant of your choosing and personally deliver it to your room. No price limit.

Just let me know when your calendar is clear. You will be taking me to Serendipity 3. We will be having lunch there. And we (or at least I) will be eating the Golden Opulence Sundae. So they need 48 hours advanced notice to be able to prepare such a decadent treat.

. . . having just looked up the restaurant and dish in question, I'd say I'm the one who got played. Still, a promise doesn't stop being a promise just because the person who gave it was an idiot.
