Letters from Chicago

Dear Jamie,
Love and miss you, still. It was wonderful seeing you last weekend – you’re family are still amazing. This week has been busier than most. I was at dad’s all week (still hate the couch) and ended up going in to work with him. It was really great to have something to do. Hanging out and having fun is ok, but it’s not enough to keep my mind off everything.
So, I couldn’t do any real work, it was all just busy work – filing, sorting, stuffing envelopes – but it kept me busy for a while. Never realized just how long a summer could be before.
Am almost thinking of taking up needle point or something similarly mind numbing and arcane to help pass the time. Promise I’ll make you something if I do.
But don’t worry, I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m thinking of writing the Professor or Dr. McCoy to ask for homework yet. I’m not quite that bad.
Love you,
-Kitty

Dear Drs McCoy, Mactaggart, Bartlet and Samson, (and hi to Nathan as well, Dr. Mactaggart.)
My we have our share of over qualified PhDs and Mds running around the mansion. Just writing to put your minds at rest that no, I haven’t gone crazy yet, and no, I’m not planning anything diabolical. I don’t even have designs on reworking the servers when I get back, although it would be a nice change from having nothing to do here.
Anyway, hope you’re all having a good summer, and that no one has tried to burn down the labs recently. Give my love to anyone who ends up in the medical lab, and of course all of you have it as well.

Dear girls,
Your favorite absentee roommate here again. At least, I hope I’m your favorite. If you’ve gone and gotten another roommate, had her supplant me, and then gotten rid of her I shall be very sad indeed. But no, surely no other could fill the spare bed the way I do. After all, what would you do without the comforting glow of my laptop to act as a night-light.
Can you tell I’m bored and miss you all terribly? Because I do, and I am. Just another day here in the Windy City. As fond of this place as I am, it pales in comparison to NYC, and both of them fail to be Westchester or Xavier’s.
Yes, I know I’m a sap. A month an a half away from my second home will do that, even if the month has been spent at my first home.
Have been working for my father a lot this week – you don’t know frustrating boredom until you’ve gotten to the point where stuffing envelopes looks exciting. I’ll pray that none of you ever get there. Beyond that, unfortunately, there’s nothing new in my world. How about for all of you?
Love ya!
-Kit

Dear Bobby,
Heya,! How goes? Just dropping a quick note to say ‘hi’ and I miss you and everyone like crazy. The weather here hasn’t been that bad most of the time, but there have definitely been days when I would have killed for some of your ice cream. There’s good stuff to be found here, but it pales in comparison to yours.
Hope you’re doing well, and that everyone at home is safe and healthy.
Love ya!
-Kitty
Return letter
Date: 2004-07-13 06:29 pm (UTC)Love you and miss you back--had a heck of a time trying to get to sleep the first couple nights I was back, apparently sneaking in with you last weekend spoiled me really quickly, imagine that.
You could learn to knit? There's scarves, and socks, and all kinds of things you can knit, as long as you don't mind looking like Ponce de Leon's grandmother. But hey, anything's better than asking for extra homework.
The big surprise this week out here was Nathan got a pet parrot, or got his pet parrot brought to him, or something, I'm not really sure how it worked. Her name's Bella, she's huge, sings opera, swears in something like seven languages, learns names really fast, and does this really funny chicken dance until she gets dizzy and falls over. Miles is in love. I'll try to send pictures next time . . . or maybe a videotape, so you get the full effect.
Videotapes. Ooh. There's a thought. I could send videotapes of me, too. I wonder how many care packages I can justify with my allowance . . .
I'll have to scheme. And possibly plot. There may be evil laughing involved. If there is, it'll go on one of the tapes.
Love you.
Jamie

Date: 2004-07-14 03:30 pm (UTC)Pet parrot? Oh, that sounds worrying. Very funny, but also worrying. I'll think about kintting - my mom knows how to crochet and it would probably get me on her good side to ask to be taught, but I don't know if you can even make anything useful with crochet. Well, except afgahns. Want a blanket?
Videotapes sound like a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful idea. I'd get to hear _and_ see you, even if I can't touch you. And yeah, it was hard for me to fall asleep when I got home too. I miss having your arms around me.
Have fun with the evil laughter. I miss you so much.
Love,
Kitty
