Dearest Jamie,

My heart breaks for want of you. My arms ache to hold you once again. How my soul weeps that it has been so long since last I saw you. My darling, promise me you won’t forget me? I should pine away forever if you did...

Er, that is, Love you and miss you! Have been reading romance novels, if you couldn’t tell. They’re crap, but they’re distracting crap. I don’t know if mom is more distressed that I’m reading brain trash or happy that it’s not another physics book.

Have started light, and am slowly working my way up to the bodice rippers featuring covers with men who look like Fabio and women who fail to look like real people. Honestly, I don’t see the appeal of the Fabio-types. I much prefer my personal farm boy.

Hmm... If only I had come back to Chicago to seek my fortune. I’d get to come back as a dashing pirate and rescue from... well, probably Monet is the closest thing we have to Humperdink, and that is a terrifying thought. Let us never speak of it again.

Although, I think I’d look good in pirate gear.

This has to be one of the strangest letters I’ve sent you. Hope it amused.

Love you so much.

Dear Rahne,

Hello! Greetings from Chicago! How are things in NY? Hope your enjoying your first NY summer and that it’s not treating you too badly. How are things at the mansion? Is everyone well?

My summer has been remarkably uneventful so far – much hanging around with Windy City locals and reading and seeing museums. Which, all together, sounds like a lot more than it’s been, unfortunately.

Saw this post card in a shop downtown and thought you’d like it. The Sears Tower is the tallest building in the US, and was the tallest in the world for a long time, and this is the view from the top. Chicago may not be NYC, but it’s no slouch on the pretty night views.

Much love to all, and keep well!

Dear Ms. Frost,

Hello, how are you? I hope this letter finds you and everyone else well, and that the weather has not been too bad. Here things are rather quiet. I wanted to write you and let you know that I am doing well, as well as to thank you in particular for one of the lessons from Speech Class – it came in quite useful the other night.

Some friends of mine invited me to a party with some friends of theirs and at the party there were a number of young men being, well, young men. They had been a bit of a nuisance to me earlier in the summer, and this party was no exception.

However, the boys eventually decided to begin a small game of cards, and I must say, their technique was almost non-existent, and what there little they had was inadequate, at best.

They were unwise enough not to listen to me when I offered to teach them a few things, and instead told me to “put my money where my mouth was”. Suffice to say, I ended the evening far better off than I started it.

So, thank you once again for your invaluable lessons, and I look forward to next terms class listing with great hopes for another chance to study with you.

Yours, most thankfully,
-Kitty Pryde

Dear Kitty,

I love you, but yes, that was the strangest letter you've ever sent. Made me laugh, though.

Also. Pirate gear? Mmm.

I'd hate to break up the visual inspiration, but if you're looking for something that won't make your brain ooze out your ears (and please do, because I like your brain where it is, and also you can never get the stains out of your clothes) you could do a lot worse than check out my Uncle Harvey's books. He's got this mystery series about a traveling encyclopedia salesman, who uses stuff from the encyclopedias to help solve crimes, and they're pretty good. Also, like he always says, every book sold is another ten miles down the road for the Winnie. I have no idea if that actually computes, since that thing guzzles gas like no tomorrow, but it sounds good, doesn't it?

Mail tracking says you should've gotten something from me by now . . . hope you liked it, though I bet I'll find out in the next couple of days anyway. Mail is sloooww. But I'll see what I can do about putting together enough material for another one pretty soon, because that was fun to do.

(And pirate gear? Mmm.)

Love,
Jamie.
