I'm so sorry for what I'm about to say, and please believe I wouldn't if I could see any other way, but... I don't think we should spend time together anymore.

There. Said, and God, that was hard to write. Please don't stop reading at this point, because I haven't finished. There's other things you need to know.

First, this isn't about anything you've done, or anything you feel. It isn't even about what Manuel did in the porch today, except that that showed me what I need to do. It isn't about anything else Manuel's done to me, either.

It's because I'm afraid for you. Of what he'll do if things carry on as they are, and... well, you said it. You can't take the way things are anymore, even if Manuel doesn't do anything.

You said it yourself. You didn't want to hurt Manuel, but you couldn't let me go either and it was driving you mad being in the middle. So I'm making that decision for you.

I meant what I said on the porch, I want you to know, and this doesn't change that. It's why I'm writing this e-mail - I won't watch you drive yourself mad trying to balance what you have with him, and us being friends, when there's something I can do about it.
