M. Beaubier,

After giving this a great deal of thought, I do not belive that our philosophies and personalities will work well together in this particular setting.

Therefore, I am going to have to resign as your teaching assistant. I will leave what materials you have given me in your office.

If you need this in writing, I can replicate this email in handwritten form.

Sincerely,
Marie-Ange Colbert

Professor Xavier,

I have carbon-copied you on an email I have sent to M. Beaubier in which I am resigning as his teaching assistant.

I do not believe that I can work with him after his rude treatment of my classmates. Is it not simply that I disagree with him, as Ms. Frost and I disagreed on many issues last semester. It is simply that I cannot trust myself to be respectful and attentive to a teacher who acts in the manner that he does.

Unfortunalty, this means that I have four fewer credits than the minimum required for this semester. As I do not speak Latin fluently enough to assist in teaching that class, and I do not believe that Piotr would care to have me has his assistant, I would like to sign up for one of the philosophy classes, preferably Kylun's, as I have taken Western Philosophy before. I am not sure if it is too late to transfer into a class. If it is, I will continue as M. Beaubier's teaching assistant, if reluctantly.

I am sorry for any trouble this has caused you.

I am interested in taking your Eastern Philosophy class. I realize it is already two weeks into the semester, so if this is not possible, I will understand.

Formerly, the time that your class was scheduled was taken up by another class I was enrolled in. This is no longer the case. I have emailed the teacher in question about dropping the class, as well as Professor Xaiver about whether or not is is possible to sign up for a new class when we have been in classes for two weeks already.

If I am permitted to join your class, I am aware that I will have to make up for the two weeks I have lost. I am willing, if you have the time, to do extra study sessions or extra reading, and complete any coursework you have already assigned.

Thank you,
Marie-Ange Colbert

No, a replication will not be necessary, Mlle Colbert. I'm sorry you've chosen to resign instead of approaching me or simply persisting and maintaining a reasonable working relationship in spite of our differences. I would have been more than willing to discuss the issue with you in person. Hopefully time will improve your ability to work with those with whom you disagree or even dislike before you are faced with this situation in the real world.

Regards,
Jean-Paul

You are very welcome in my class, Marie-Ange; thank you for your interest. I think you may find it less formal than some of your other courses; I have not yet assigned any written homework, because I am still learning how to evaluate such things, but there has been quite a lot of reading and discussion. Some of your prospective classmates have been taking notes, and so you may wish to speak with them to learn where the discussion has ranged, and Shan has a list of the texts we have been exploring. I hope to expand the school's collection of such works when I have the opportunity to visit my former home again, but until then you should not find the reading overly burdensome.

My practice takes up the first few hours after dawn, and I sit in on a few of the other classes currently being offered, but aside from those obligations I should be available at your convenience, if you would like to discuss the class.
