Afternoon, all,

This was meant to be done a while ago, but as usual other matters took precedence. But here I am now.

Last month Doctor McCoy set up a medical community on the journals, called x_medical, for the purpose of exchanging medical infomation much easier than via email or those notes left on the coffee maker and the Twinkie box. After some discussion, we decided it would be appropriate to invite you three, who seem to have become the regular student helpers in the medlab, to join that list. The invitation (and working in the medlab itself) however, comes with some caveats and addendums.

1) Working in medlab is a priveledge, not a right. You are being given an opportunity no other student in the country, and possibly the world, is given. These are people's lives and well-being we are dealing with here, and as such, the ultimate responsiblity for those in our care falls to Hank and myself. Therefore, our word is law. If for any reason we choose not to include you in any medlab business, there will be no debate, argument or tantrum-throwing.If we decide to terminate the helper arrangement, again, there is no debate, argument or tantrum-throwing.

This is non-negotiable. If you don't like it, you don't have to continue to work with us.

2) This should be rule number one, since I'm using the Fight Club analogy, but the first one is most important, so it's number one. Any way, Rule Number Two: You do not talk about medlab. A person's condition, injuries, personal medical history, drug-induced babblings etc are CONFIDENTIAL. I can't stress this enough, people. We've seen what can happen when someone's personal infomation falls into the wrong hands, and I don't want any repetitions of that. Anyone caught gossiping out of turn will be asked to discontinue their helping and will not be invited back again.

3) I touched on this already, but it bears repeating. Hank and I are the doctors. Moira is not an MD, but she has brains coming out her ears and more knowledge of mutation than the other two of us put together. Cecelia is a brilliant fourth year med student. We know what we're doing. When we give you an instruction, we expect you to comply. Again, with no debate or argument. You all know time is crucial in medicine, and we don't want to waste it messing around. So, again, or word is law, and that includes if we tell you to get out from underfoot, or that you've done quite enough healing magic today, thank you, Amanda.

4) In order to improve the instructional process, we've devised a mentor system. Each of you will be assigned to one of us for supervision, training and the like. Rahne will be with Hank, Clarice will be with me, and Amanda will be with Moira. If anyone has any objections, we can make changes. Your mentor is more than your supervisor and Dread God, they are your teacher, and I hope everyone will benefit from the arrangement.

Okay, that's it from me. If you've read all this and you still want to work in medlab and be subscribed to x_medical, drop us a reply and go to x_medical and request to be added to the list. There's nothing up at the moment - it came during a lull in proceedings - but no doubt that will change.

Remember, none of you would have been invited in the fist place if we didn't think you had it in you to be helpful to us. The rules are there because they need to be stated, and have done for some time, not because we think you can't stick to them. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Dr Madelyn Bartlett.

You won't have any problems with me. I'm happy to work with Moira and learn more about the conventional side of things, too.

A.

I learned my lesson. no more tantrums, I swear. I'll follow all your rules. And I like working with Dr. B and in the medlab. Thank you for not giving up on me.
