Subject: wondering how you were

And yes, I'm fully aware of the presumption and the irony here. Figured I'd say that up front. I'm not asking you to set my mind at ease - I don't figure I'm owed that, after what I did - but there is something I need to tell you, son, something that will hopefully help set your mind at ease.

When we left Westchester last month, I was all for dealing with Kritzer as soon as possible. Then one of our other telepaths pointed out that there was a better use for her. He got the jump on her about a week later, did a selective mindwipe that he set up to look like damage from a psi-attack. Once we made sure we'd protected ourselves as much as we could without it looking too suspicious and planted some misinformation in her mind, we sent her back to Mistra.

What you need to know is that we left the knowledge of the Trojan Horse, and what happened to you, in her mind. So they knew, Nathan - they know your conditioning's gone completely and can't be restored. The 'recapture' order's been revoked, according to our sources, and there's been nothing issued to replace it. As far as Mistra goes, they seem to be doing their best to ignore your existence.

My guess would be that they're afraid of you. You've still got all the training, all the knowledge, all the experience, and none of the safeguards anymore. If you were a hard target before, you're damned nearly impossible now.

You can't count on that lasting forever, of course - although we can hope. I'll do my best to let you know if anything changes.

I am sorry for what happened. I know that's not worth much, but I figured I'd say it anyway.
