Al,
I was wondering if you were needing someone to escort you to that HeliX shindig next weekend. Assuming Miles isn't doing it, anyway. :) I figure, if you're still looking, that maybe I could take you. Just a couple friends getting together. Haven't been that good of a friend recently, so I thought maybe I'd take a try at getting better at it.

Sam,
I'm sorry - I actually wasn't looking at all and planning to go alone but then someone just asked and I said yes because I hadn't planned anything and... I'm afraid I'll have to say no.
I'll keep a dance for you at the ball, though, if you want?

Al,
No worries. Early bird gets the worm and all that. I'm curious who asked you, though. And yeah, you saving a dance for me sounds nice. :)

Al,
Not calling you a worm, just using that old expression as an example that the guy who asks first usually has a better chance of getting a 'yes', and the guy who waits until everyone has already made plans usually has to go stag. I'm sure you and Haroun'll have a very nice time. I'd be much obliged if you'd save a dance for me.
