Subject: A request I have been meaning to make
Several weeks ago now, Kurt spoke to me regarding the X-Men; with one thing and another, I have not followed up on that talk until now.
As you will remember, I was part of the warrior arm of my order; there were, generally, between fifteen and twenty of us. I began my training twenty years ago, and joined the circle of warriors five years later; I led them for the last seven years before the monastery's fall. We specialized in close combat, and though our tactics were geared particularly toward hostage rescue--our most common foe was, as I may have mentioned, a cult of human sacrifice--we encountered a variety of situations while fulfilling our duties in the defense of our brethren. I am not unfamiliar with the particular challenges of powered combat; the cult had a variety of supernatural gifts, and those of our own mystics who wished to, when their duties permitted, fought with us. I have training, and experience, and the will to fight, and as it was in my old home, so it is now, that there are those who need the protection of people with those skills.
I ask, therefore, that you consider me for membership in the X-Men. I realize that I have much to learn about the world, and that my training and experience may differ from your requirements--and that, even in the absence of all other considerations, I will need to strive to fit myself into an existing unit, with its own methods and priorities. I do not expect a place, nor do I demand that you take me at my word about my skills; if you wish to test me, I will give you my best, and if you so decide, it will be my honor to serve.
If it is not perhaps too mystical a pronouncement . . . I believe this is a part of why my path has led here. For the second time in my life, I have found a home unlooked-for when all else has been taken away; for the second time in my life, that home needs defending. I will await your answer, and I thank you for your consideration.

Date: 2004-11-01 04:03 pm (UTC)It can be a challenge for someone with a lot of previous experience to get used to working with us, but I've always felt that the value of that experience is worth the initial process of adjustment on both sides. You and I should sit down and talk more about this - the training rotations won't be done for a few days yet, even barring further catastrophes, but I should be able to give you some idea of what you'll be doing.
