Re: Drivers license

Marie-Ange,

It appears, from the NY DMV's web page, that the best course of action would be for you to get a drivers license in France. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen any time soon.

So, here is what you'll need to do:

We'll need to get a letter from the US Social Security Administration, indicating that you're not a resident and therefore don't need a Social Security card. Then we'll need to make sure we have enough proof of your identity, which requires your passport and a form we'll need to fill out at the DMV. I'll need to check our records, to see if we have a parental consent form from your parents.

Once that is all set, then you should study the manual and we can take you down to get your permit when you think you're ready for the permit test.

That is a lot of paperwork. Ick.

I could probably get enough things to prove my identity, if I can get a ID card for school here. I have my old one, but it is in French. I am not sure the DMV would like that very much.

I have my passport, and my student Visa, and a great pile of paperwork from immigration in a folder. How do I get this letter from this Social Security Administration?

I suppose I could look that up on google.

I will do some research and see if I can figure it out.
