YOUR history, Hahkota. you say I have pointless tirades, but THIS is why our tribe is so small. slaugher for no reason other than being Indian. it took another 25 years before we STAYED on the rez and stop waging guerilla warfare...and nothing we did mattered because our numbers were so few. we had surrendered and they still killed everyone, even CHILDREN.

Yes, and it's HISTORY. Why be mad about it? Who are you going to be mad at? You didn't know anyone that was killed, and no one's alive who did the killing. Yes, it was a tragedy - but that's ALL. It shouldn't be any more important to you than it is to Doug or to Shiro. Because it's just words on a page now.

Your tribe is small - what is matters more than the why of it. Deal with the now instead of the past is what I'm saying.

I am not mad at anyone. I am mad that it happened at all. I am mad because despite this, very little has changed over the years. we're not being actively hunted down because it is not 'politically correct', but there has never even been an apology! I don't think the gov't should give us 40 acres and a mule, but an acknowledgement of wrongdoing would be nice.

this affects every tribal decision when dealing with the whiteman, making a treaty or loaning out land. anything. and not just this, but all the previous dealings too.

you only get hurt so many times before you try to protect yourself and if you forget about what hurt you, it will happen again. like trying to ride horses when you don't know how to ride.

See, my question is - what right do you have to be mad? It didn't happen to you. It happened to the people who used to live on the same patch of ground you used to live on. That's like being mad because the previous tenants of your apartment were charged too much rent. What would an apology do to you? You were never wronged, plus, the people who COULD apologize are dead.

Let the past be the past.

without history what do you have? nothing. no sense of where you came from or where you are going. you can change the future, but only if you know what worked - or did not work - in the past.

and it did happen to me - the spirits of my ancestors are in me. and yours are in you, you just deny it. you can't say it was just random people because it was not random. it was Cheyenne people who I am descended from like you are.

you say the past means nothing, and I guess it wouldn't since your father turned his back on his and refused to teach it to you. you were wrong as much as me, but you are ashamed.

I can't leave it in the past because the past shows the future.
