Remember that reworking we did of Merrick's conjuration matrix? With the specs Forge emailed from Buttfuck, USA and me and you worked on for a bit? I showed him what we'd done last Saturday, and while he wasn't that impressed then, he had a look at what we'd done on paper over the next couple of days. He just called me to say he thought we'd done an interesting job. But interesting in a good way - there wasn't the usual bollocking for fucking with stuff. He's asked for a bit more of our stuff - got any suggestions?

Really? Wow...

It's a little early for the power transference stuff, and I'm not comfortable with Forge's transmutation idea yet. As a side note, if Forge calls his little prototype device for it the Transmognifer one more time, I will have to ensure something terrible happens to him.

Maybe stick with the areas we know are working, show him the steamlined focal system and some of the bleed elements in the limiter. They're not as flashy as the matrix, but I'm sure he'll be able to see the possibilities there.

The less flashy stuff'd probably go down better with Strange, any way. He's a bit of a fuddy-duddy that way. *grins* I'll take along the notes next Saturday for him to look at.

And which one of you is going to explain the Transmogrifier joke? I know there's one, but it's gone straight over my English head...

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. The original matrix was invented by people with only a bare grasp of mathematics and no concept whatsoever of layer theory.

And until someone comes up with a better name, it's the Transmogrifier, dammit.

That's because it originated in ancient Assyria first. Considering that's pre-Euclid, it's a pretty brilliant intiutive grasp of the concept, derived instinctively out of harmonic patterns. With this material, I doubt you'd even have had the math to translate it into something else earlier than the eighties.

Which is something that I wanted to talk about. You've been ignoring the summaries I've been sending with the research, Forge, and some of that information is important. I realise that you're completely contemptetous of the entire history of thaumaturgical theory, but ignoring everything but the raw numbers and energy is dangerous. We don't know Amanda's real capabilities or limits yet, and we can't quantify all of the elements in most of this material yet. Yes, it may have been developed by a retarded hillman back when we were all eating rocks in caves, but he's used it safely for 8000 years.

For example, you stripped out the muzzle on your last set of equations for the focal spell. While it's granted a lot more efficient, I think it also has Amanda not absorbing but channeling as we wanted, but with that power level, she's also broadcasting. That's going to vastly raise the magical levels around her, and could cause an event or a random destablization of the umbratic field.

Take this stuff seriously, Forge. Maybe it's wrapped up in munbo-jumbo, but they've also been doing it for thousands of years. You've been on it, what, six months? There's plenty to learn.

This is me putting my hand up for not finding out my limits just yet. It tends to lead to dramatic collapses and medlab. And broadcasting doesn't sound... safe. I've already had a pretty graphic demonstration of magic influencing some mutations and I'm sure Jake wouldn't want to get back in touch with his inner Frog Prince.

Fuck, listen to me being responsible. I blame Strange. ;)
