We're back from the mall and we've got trouble, folks.
Kyle picked up Forge's scent, all right, and according to him Forge was scared. On the edge of a panic attack scared. So we can rule out him running away in a fit of teenage rejection.
Now, this is where it gets worse.
I managed to cajole the mall's rent-a-cops to let me have a copy of the security camera tape covering the area Kyle tracked Forge to. The picture's not great, but it pretty clearly shows Forge talking and then leaving with a woman. Not entirely voluntarially, either - at one point he seems to be having trouble moving and his face indicates he was in some pain at least for a moment. As for the woman...
There's no easy way to say this, so I'll come straight out with it.
The woman is Lorna. It's unmistakeably her - there's a clear shot of her face. Add to that the fact Wanda found Forge's PDA in a trash can near where they were and according to Hank it's been shorted by an EM field. Forge knew not to approach her, the same as the rest of the kids, and the fear Kyle smelled plus what I saw on the tape indicates that he was taken by her against his will for purposes unknown, but given Forge's gifts, it's not difficult to take a guess. Why Lorna would need him to build something is another question entirely.
I've gone through the rest of the tapes but they don't cover all of the parking lot, and I lost them. Kyle couldn't give us much more beyond that they got into a vehicle of some sort.
Kyle's been asked to use his discretion to avoid creating a panic, especially on top of the news of Tommy's return to consciousness. But considering students are being targeted, we might want to give them something to cover what's happened and the need for caution when off campus. I'm thinking maybe reinstituting the buddy system we had in place when Nathan was re-conditioned.
I'm supplying copies of the tape to intel and the team leaders. You know where to find me if there's anything else I can provide.

Date: 2005-10-06 12:57 am (UTC)As for security precautions... checking in, checking out, no solitary trips at the very least. Right now I'm leaning towards restricting nonessential trips unless done in large groups.

Date: 2005-10-06 02:05 pm (UTC)Remember, we don't know for certain that it is Lorna. The data from LAX strongly suggests that someone who she thought was an old school friend got close enough to take her. Considering the Magneto-shaped involvement, that's got to be Mystique.
If it's Lorna, then Magneto has gotten his hands on a high-level telepath and is running her from the outside.
If not, then we've got Mystique running around with Magneto providing the cover powers. From the Professor's files, Magneto can pull most of his EM tricks from the other side of the mall if he wanted to. Since Mystique has no natural body scent of her own, a set of Lorna's recently worn clothes would be enough to trick the kid's nose.
If that's the case, this is a setup for Magneto to take us in the direction he wants and blindside us later.
