Subject: Something I should have asked a while ago.
Would you consider taking over primary responsibility for the Blackbird? It really needs more time than I can give it these days. I'm asking you because you're qualified and more than competent - you've done the job on and off and often enough, and done it very well. We're not looking at the necessity of any more design work for the time being, so that simplifies things.

Perhaps you could say you would be able to help out for the short-term, but you would be unable to take over for him entirely. I will talk to him, and hopefully he will realize this is still an important thing for him to do.
