Good morning.
I know this probably isn't the best time, or maybe it's the perfect time. But any way, sorry if this adds to anyone's workload and makes their brains explode.
I've been reading through the journals and it seems like things are doing their best pressure cooker impersonation there, what with earthquakes and kidnappings and the rest, and it's got to be hard on the kids. The fact they're fleeing the place in numbers for the summer is a bit of a hint. Any way, back when I was a student there, Pete used to have this regular Saturday run into New York, for anyone that wanted a day in the city. Obviously he's not able to do that now, but I was thinking maybe I could start it up again once the summer hols are over? I've gotten used to driving in New York traffic and I could pretty much head over to the school of a morning, use the minivan to haul whoever wants to go back to the city and then bring them back in the afternoon.
Usual security stuff with the phones and the panic buttons and the letting people know where you're going to be would apply, of course. I'd even talk with Kuk and Forge about what might make things safer, like tagging people with GPS or something. *grins* That's just a joke, by the way.
As far as my work goes, I'd probably work up a substitute system for someone to take over if I'm out of the country or whatever. I know Angelo wouldn't mind and he needs the odd break from the office himself.
I'm a good driver and I know a thing or two about getting into trouble which actually gives me a good idea of what to expect from your lot. Of course, with my history and all I wouldn't be upset if you decided I wasn't reliable enough, but I thought I'd make the offer, any way.
Cheers,
A.

Date: 2006-08-03 12:27 am (UTC)Just checking my email, happened to see this. I'll probably let Ororo do the working out of details with you - I'm not actually back at work just yet - but it seems like a workable idea to me. Judging by some of the comments Nathan's made in my hearing, it wouldn't hurt both you and Angelo to do some getting out of the office, too, and I know the students would appreciate it. We may have more people with driver's licenses of their own around these days, but the preference all around is still mostly for traveling in groups. I wonder why.
You will have to talk to Kuk and Forge, but like I said, I'll let you work out those details with Ororo. Thank you for the offer.

Date: 2006-08-03 01:07 am (UTC)I'll ping Ms. Munroe and Forge and Kuk about the security side of things, and some of the grad types about taking turns - we've all got different responsibilities and all, what with the team and Elpis's overseas trips and the stuff we get up to here and I'd hate for the kids to miss out because of it.
I figure it'll do a lot of people good all 'round. I know I always appreciated the effort Pete put in.
