Ms. Marie,

I am fairly certain that the staff should have noticed this, but it has come to my attention that Kyle is not in the best of moods. The students all seem to know this, and I believe that a number of them have attempted to speak with him but have not received pleasing results. I spoke with him on Monday and his actions and words to me were not as bad as I have heard they have been. Still, the situation seems to be worsening, and perhaps it is time to make official notice of my concern to a staff member.

Feel free to turn me over to Mr. Summers again.

Crystal,

This situation does not require that I turn over your questions to Mr. Summers, but you should feel free to go to him with your concerns if you prefer. Depending on the situation and how much I know we are allowed to reveal about confidential matters, I sometimes will refer you to other people.

In this case, I am glad you told me. I will see Kyle in class tomorrow and I can check out how he's acting there. Do you think that would work or is this something where you think more immediate action is taken (such as you are concerned that Kyle might physically harm himself or someone else).

Ms. Marie,

Unless the matter is of a nature requiring an exact, immediate answer or is a matter of life and death, it is usually best to ask a person before turning his or her questions, comments, or concerns over to someone else. A query can be made of a certain person in particular based on any variety of reasons, and perhaps that concern was not one intended to be known by anyone else.

Although is not my personal opinion that Kyle wishes to cause harm to himself or to others, I am not a trained professional in such matters. I believe that you should observe him carefully and see for yourself the change in the way he is interacting with others.
