Subject: Fuck
I've just got out of a sudden and unexpected interogation session.
Mark's gotten himself arrested by the Syrians. Don't know really have much in the way of details why, yet - it was all I could do to keep out of the nick myself.
I think out people at the dig site are safe enough for now - the Syrians are still pissed off, but they're focussing on me and the "Iraqi spy" right now, not what's going on at the dig.
I'd just about got them (and the Iraqis) smoothed over (not cheap, but worth it), both sides agreeing to hold off moving in for a few days at least, when they started suggesting that I'd brought an Iraqi spy into their camp. Given that I'd been playing the "No, I'm no threat, my friends are no threat, please for fuck's sake calm down" game, I can't break him out, and leaning on them isn't an option.
Right now, though, Sheppard's on his own.
Pete

Date: 2007-03-13 06:11 pm (UTC)The Israelis are nervous; very nervous. The general undertone that I'm getting from all the muttering is that Syria and Iraq are only days away from a full on incident, and that Syria isn't all that stable right now. If they start spreading it around, it could be the Six Day War all over again.
I finally pinned down Yitzhak Shavit. He's got some information for me, hopefully clearing up what's happening. This all looks a little too conveiniant to be random chance to me.
I'll let you know what I find out.
