What's the story on the Rasputin girl? I've just had a fascinating conversation with her--as much for what she tried not to say as what she said. Pity she was so tired, though; I got the sense that there's a halfway-competent verbal fencer buried somewhere in there.

Well, I'm guessing you probably know or have since been informed about some of the backstory there, so I won't pretend that's what you mean. I wish I could answer that question. Her grades have been sliding for a while, she's not been particularly social... well, not that Illyana generally is even at the best of times. She's also completely unreadable on the telepathic level and so very much Not Your Average Teenager that I'll be damned if I can pick up much beyond the fact that something is clearly bothering her. But given how she grew up, I think that healthy normality is too much to ask.

I wish sometimes we could force therapy on them, but that kind of defeats the purpose.

Healthy normality probably is a bit beyond the scope, yes, but there's more there than just a bit of grade slippage. Though I knew that "studying" excuse was a lie, hah.

I think she's in fairly serious trouble. Unless I'm completely projecting . . . the shape of her evasions suggests that whatever she's trying to hide has her worried, and she's still hell-bent, if you'll forgive the term, on dealing with it herself. And the last time I looked that fried, I ended up in your back seat.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do beyond keep an eye on her - and that's hard, when we're talking about a cross-dimensional teleporter. Maybe some of her teachers can get something more from her when she starts working with them individually.. it's about the only shot I see at this point.

Yes, she struck me as a very forthcoming young woman with a great deal of respect for her teachers. I'm sure she'll leap at the chance to ask them for help.

Spot-on as the sarcasm might be, it's also not very helpful. There's a limit to how much pushing we can do, especially with someone of age who can technically leave whenever she wants, and far more easily than most.

That's true, I suppose. Well, hopefully her pride breaks before the rest of her.
