I talked to Terry last week before she left and she said she'd started teaching Tommy how to play the guitar and I asked her if anyone else here could play the guitar and she said you taught yourself so I thought maybe you'd be willing to work with Tommy so he doesn't have to stop improving on playing the guitar just because Terry's away now. So, what do you say? Will you help Tommy? Please?

Terry told you that, did she? Did she also tell you that I've no interest in teaching anything to anyone? Did you tell her that I'm not particularly inclined to do you any favors?
And, for that matter, did either of you bother to find out what the Jones boy thinks about this, or are the two of you arranging his life to suit yourselves?

Yes. No. No. No, yes.
Are you still mad about the stinging thing? I'm sorry, ok? Look, this isn't a favor for me, it's a favor for Tommy. He hasn't done anything to tick you off, has he? And yeah, we're trying to help him out a bit. It's called being nice. I wasn't going to ask him before you said yes, I'm not that presemptuous or anything. I don't need to tell him I have this great idea and then have to say nope, sorry about that.
See, it's not teaching, not really. I mean, sure, you can call it teaching if you want, but you can also just look at it as sharing knowlege. It's not like you'd be an official teacher with an official student, you'd just be a guy who lives here showing another guy who lives here how to get better at playing the guitar. No one's going to suddenly come pounding down your door making you teach a classroom full of kids or anything.
Please please please? Try it, just once? If you totally can't stand it I won't say anything more about it and I'll just leave you alone, but please just give it a shot and see if it's really so bad? Pretty pretty please?

Mad? No. But that doesn't make you suddenly one of my favorite people, either.
I'm tempted to say no just to stop you from pleading in that irritating fashion, but you've caught me in a generous mood. If he agrees, I'll give it one try.

I'm not one of your favorite people? Aww... I'm crushed, but I think I'll manage to live somehow.
Thank you!!! :) I'm sure Tommy will agree! And yeah, you just saved yourself from about a dozen more varieties of "pretty pretty please."
