Hi,

I'm not entirely sure what it would be called, the thing I'm thinking about. Dr Grey, I'd probably be working the most with you, which is why I'm e-mailing you as well as Mr Summers and Ms Ororo.

I was thinking about maybe training to become a doctor and as a part of that, be sort of Medical backup for the team? I've been thinking a lot about my powers lately, and how I can use them to help people. Jennie said she was joining the team, making sure what happened to her doesn't happen to anyone else.

I'd like to do that to, but I think I'd be better suited to the 'patching people up and making sure they don't come home broken' sort of thing.

I know I'm only seventeen right now and that's sort of young for the whole team thing but is there some kind of trainee status I can be on till I'm old enough to be a true auxiliary member?

Laurie,

I'm not sure what exactly you're proposing here? 'Auxiliary' isn't really an official status; they're usually former X-Men, or people with useful skills that we can call on if needed. If what you've got in mind is some sort of field medic role for when you're of age... well, that's workable, but just speaking for myself I'd prefer to see you actually go through X-Men training if that's what you want to do. There's no guarantee that you wouldn't get caught up in fighting if you were out in the field, even if you intended to stay on the sidelines dealing with the wounded.

You're still seventeen, as you said. It might be better to focus on your medical skills for the time being, then worry about how you're going to apply them? Do talk to Jean, though. What you'd need to learn goes considerably beyond basic first aid. Injured X-Men are brought home with broken bones and internal injuries and all the standard things, but the infirmary staff can also see strange energy burns, psionic damage, seventy different types of burnout... I could go on, but it's probably more productive to just tell you to talk to my wife.

Do come and talk to me as well, though, if the field medic thing is what you have in mind.

Might be best to leave it until tomorrow or the next day, Laurie - Jean and I are just back from one of those vacations that really wasn't a vacation. We're not precisely jet-lagged, but I at least am not quite at my best.
