My father is stalking me. Why won't he go home and find a ship to board or something?
And Jean won't let me make up a bed down here where he can't find me.

Perhaps if you stopped avoiding him and talked he would not feel compelled to 'stalk' you. I doubt he has any sinister motives and it may be the best way of getting what you want - even if what you want is absolutely insane.

How is what I want insane? Alex can follow him around like a no-longer lost puppy if he wants - actually, I'm thrilled that he's that happy with all of this. Doesn't mean I need to follow suit. I swear, the poetry-spouting was a happy distraction this week.

I am only questioning the fact that your father is here and you seem to want to have nothing to do with him. It doesn't make any sense to me.
I have met him, and found him to be a very intelligent, interesting man. Why you would willingly distance yourself from him when you have the chance to begin (or continue) a relationship is beyond my understanding.
Why do you avoid him?

I don't like him. And I think he feels entitled to a conversation just because he fished me out of the Indian Ocean.

Because a conversation is obviously such an imposition?
Whether you like it or not, Scott, he is your father. I am not trying to say that this fact means you must automatically love him, or even like him, but it seems like extreme stubborness to pass this opportunity up. Give him a chance. Maybe you will be surprised.
