Mr Wisdom,
Yesterday, Mystique made it very clear to me that the Keep's security was inadequate considering the enemies we have. Since she was nice enough to give me the heads up that she's been traipsing all over my property, I'd prefer to fix it as quickly as possible.
We'd kept things minimal so far; I've attached the plans. Any input you can provide would be much appreciated. The major snag obviously is that significant portions of the Keep and the grounds are open to the public.
Thank you.
Terry

Date: 2008-06-13 09:34 pm (UTC)Still: Rule #1 - Nothing you actually care about in the public bits. I mean, I understand that you own a big pile of you know, ancient family stuff that's worth vast sums, but how much of it are you actually attached to? Also, I'm assuming that with a concern like Mystique about, it's more people, rather than things you're bothered about defending.
That being the case: reinforce all doors that separate public from private areas - talk to someone like Forge about what would good to use - something non-ferrous, I'd guess. Automatic locking on them all, ideally both with both a mechanical key and something biometric.
Secondarily, a series of panic rooms, accessible from the public areas, to move the public into in the even of a crisis during open hours - you'd be able to assess your crowd dynamics better than me, but you're looking for the maximum number of small rooms, ideally - that way, if someone hostile does get sealed in a panic room, you're minimising the damage then can do from the inside.
Plus the usual range of scanners on all the doors, again Forge is probably better up on them than me, if he hasn't invented something better in his lunch break, anyway - facial or gait recognition isn't up there yet (but give it three or four years and it might be), but you can at least check for weapons on the way in.
That's about it for twenty minutes thought, but I can call some people I know who specialise in building security, particularly for old buildings, and get them to get in touch, provided you don't mind a couple of former Special Branch guys being on the property. They'd be able to let you know what can be done within building regulations, and advise on the right people to go to for the work.

Re: Security
Date: 2008-06-13 10:17 pm (UTC)Bugger, this all would have been better to have incorporated last year during the renovations.
To answer your first question, I'm attached to all of it but far less attached than I am to the continued good health of my family and the visiting public. It's insured and non-living. Anything we can't afford to lose isn't on display.
Like I said, any help, that most especially includes names of people who know what they're doing. I'm afraid to pitch this to Sean without some authoritative back up. You can give them my contact information or Bobby's. Forge is going to be recovering from his injuries for a while and then the jet will need rebuilding. He won't have time for the Keep anytime soon and I'd like to begin before then.
Thank you again,
Terry
