Subject: Doug is in your lab again?
He did not come back to the suite last night, am I correct in guessing that he stayed up working in your lab? Could you perhaps 'keep an eye on him'? I am sure you already know how often he forgets to eat normally, and so far, I have had to put meals in front of his face to convince him it was time to eat.
Also, and this may sound odd - do you have the lights that have the ... the lights that are like the sun? I am not sure of the term for them. If I cannot get Doug into the sun as the doctors suggested, then I want to bring the sun to him.
I know, I am probably being very pushy, but ... you saw how he is, yes?

He needed someplace quiet to rest, away from stimulation. Sort of like nerves shutting down around an open wound, I'd guess, he's avoiding overstimulating the parts of him that got shut down by whatever Emma did. But in the meanwhile, we've been conversing, in a way.
Also, he's 58-0 at chess since last night.

What do you mean 'to use'?
What did he tell you about what Emma did to him?
FIFTY-EIGHT? You have played fifty-eight games of chess with Doug, and he has won all of them?

Subject: Usefulness.
I have him debugging and perfecting code for one of my projects. I think I've seen him smile twice.
He said that Emma "removed all distractions". Cut out everything that would divert his brain from the necessary task. Similar to how he was after designing Haroun's JETSTREAM tech, only more focused and controlled.
And yes, fifty-eight. We took a few moments and hand-coded a voice recognition program so that we don't have to waste time going back and forth to a board. He's multitasking quite well, although I really need to find some original openings he can't immediately factor in a countergambit to.

Have you seen him eat? I do not want a lecture from that woman who turns into green fog, I always forget how to spell her name. She scares me.
She did a bit more than that. When I spoke to her, she told me she had to take away everything that made him... Doug. Besides, of course, the analytical side to him. Which is probably why he is beating you at chess. What was his record before the attack?
If you are not busy, both of you, I will be down in about an hour with dinner. No, not dinner I will cook - I know better. I am going to go bother Mark to see what he has found in the way of carry-out, since he has carry-out radar. Like Doug's only, I suspect Doug's is not working right now.
