If you suspected Manuel of using his empathy to rape Adrienne why would you put the idea into her head instead of just dealing with him? I'm especially curious since I know that you two didn't know each other at all previously and so you have no frame of reference, really, for her personal character to make such an assumption.

Date: 2009-01-18 07:34 pm (UTC)Manuel de la Rocha was once a very dangerous young man, one happy to use his powers to get what he wanted, even if it involved making other people believe it was what they wanted too. A friend of mine still has scars from his actions. One was suppressed and mentally abused. Another was nearly killed, all thanks to his influence. At one point, he sold out the entire school happily, to satisfy his own ambitions. I have no intention of letting that happen again. Manuel knows that any return to his old ways, and I will find him and kill him.
The people in my office noticed Adrienne leaving Manuel's hotel in a state of undress, and mentioned that it was very uncharacteristic of her. I followed up to make sure that nothing had happened, which Adrienne confirmed long before I got there with her powers. As a precaution, I had her speak with Sofia, our resident behavioural psychologist for her assessment on whether any of her actions that night hinted towards empathic suggestion. Her professional assessment was that Adrienne's actions were not influenced.
What Adrienne does or doesn't do really couldn't matter less to me. I know what Manuel has done in the past, and that will not be allowed to happen again. If you're e-mailing me out of some sense of protection for your friend, then take it as this being how I protect mine.

Date: 2009-01-18 07:47 pm (UTC)Adrienne said you went to her to try to catch Manuel in an attempt to rape her. I'm sure you can gather the sort of impression that phrasing presents. I do not know you well enough to assume whether that impression is correct or her poor phrasing. In order to not jump to incorrect conclusions I thought it better to contact you, but I didn't feel it was urgent or important enough at this moment in time to warrant requesting a meeting with you to have the discussion.
You made me an offer of a job. It is an offer I have been very seriously considering since. It is, however, a job which will put my life on the line at times and the character of the person I work for becomes very important to me under such circumstances. It is a fact that I hope you can appreciate. I did not want to consider the offer under an incorrect impression given by someone else relating information poorly.
I would assume you'd have more tact and discretion than her wording suggested, but I find it is safer to admit ignorance and request clarification than to make an assumption either way.
