Jake,

I found some scans of the magazine. There was originally a location caption included with the picture, but the editor is either a failure at his job or looking to rumor-monger -- it claims the shot is from Vermont. Whether or not anyone looking for you would dig deeper depends on how well-acquainted they are with the interiors of New York's candy shops, I suppose.

I know that is not the best news, but at least it is not leading anyone right to your doorstep.

Either way, I do not think I like your father very much.

There is no crime in wanting time to yourself, and I think your being exhausted, stressed, and freshly jolted would be mitigating circumstances even if there were. Don't worry about it. Just let me know when you feel up to company again.

You really were not. I was the one who showed up -- and left -- without warning.

Can we make it an early dinner? Lil has informed me that I will leave my room at some point today and go to Amara's 21st birthday party at Harry's tonight, and it would probably be a good idea to have something in my stomach before she starts handing me shots. If you're feeling social enough that you want to come along and keep me from embarrassing myself too much, it would be appreciated.

Meh. He's done worse. I'll take a picture in the mail over a Pointed Conversation any day. It's his way of saying that he cares.

Any other day and I would've shown my appreciation better than I did. It was a really good dinner, too--or, rather, a really good breakfast, but I imagine it would have been better before it needed reheating.
