Subject: Regarding Amanda and her time in the medlab...

Hello all,

I've had informal talks with a few of you on this, but I figure now's a good time to make it formal. Besides, this is something I should have acted on earlier anyway, though recent events have only made me more determined on this - and I think you'll all agree.

Amanda's tasks in regards to her healing of both students and staff needs to be curtailed. There is a point now where she is mostly always exhausted or tired (or was, before the holidays), from healing injuries that are not life-threatening and could manage just fine without her being called upon. This is unhealthy for her, and the kicker is that I don't mean in a physical way (though it is).

Emotionally speaking, she believes that if she doesn't do something to make herself worthy and useful, she doesn't deserve to stay. It may not be as acute as before, but I think it's still there. And she won't stop healing unless she runs out of magical oomph to do it, and then will repeat the process each time over and over again.

So... I'm thinking she needs to be limited in what she is asked to do. With the option of saying no, at all times. She won't mind you. But still.

It will also stop a trend of people taking healings from her for granted. This particular side of thing disturbs me as well and needs to stop. Now. Not only for the potentially abusive attitude this may turn into, but also for the carelessness it may engender.

So from now on? You break your arm, it heals the good old fashioned way.

You're at death's door - well, getting the nudge needed to keep you around isn't so much so ask for then.

A stark contrast, but that's my way of thinking on this. I leave the specifics and details to you three. You are far more competent on the matter of the human body and healing than I could ever hope to be.

And I'm staying off the journal system until the silly jokes about Magneto being dipped in chocolate are out of sight, because I'd like to punch something now. :p

Will be checking email.

I'm available. Just let me know how you want to work through it. I'm up for just about anything you can come up with.

But I draw the line at Haagen-sex. It gets everything all messy.

Salaam,
Haroun

I'll be there. And once you're done we can raid the fridge for Haagen-Daaz. And anything else you'd like along with it.

Good lord, I had no idea she'd been called on so often... I suspect I should apologize to her as well, since my extended absences have probably weighed on her as well as Madelyn and Moira. Alison, you are absolutely right to bring this to our attention, and something must certainly be done.

I, for one, have no problem with restricting her to only life-and-death situations... or those in which conventional medical treatment will fail. I doubt that Amanda would stand by and allow someone to suffer a permanant injury such as loss of sight or a limb without intervening, whether or not we permitted it. If we do allow it, at least we will be able to supervise and keep her exertions to a minimum. In other cases... well, we have plenty of plaster and sutures at the ready.

This is going to be brief since I'm still exhausted. I agree 100%. We've been taxing the girl far too much for her own good or our piece of mind.

I know she feels like she _has_ to do something to feel wanted and I might have an idea long that line. I need to feel it out some more, though.

But yes, less healing for things that will heal on it's own is a good thing.

Do you want to talk to her about it on her return, Moira, or would you like me to handle it? I know the two of you are close, and I wouldn't want conflict to arise between you because of this. I'd be happy to play the 'bad doctor' and place the limits on her involvement, so she can still go to you for support and to hear about your ideas for other ways for her to help.

I don't have a lot to say beyond 'yes, something needs to be done'. We should probably work out some sort of scale for her, and whether we're keeping her to life and death permanently or not (because I don't envy you your chances of convincing her to not do it permanently, Hank), but otherwise it's a damn good idea. I for one have been guilty of treating her like a piece of medical equipment, and that needs to stop.

One thing, however - in the event one of us gets hurt, should we ask Amanda if she's able to help? Because in the event of a major emergency, functioning doctors would be a priority.

Maddie.
