Sir,
As we discussed a while back, I'm in the Flight class this semester, despite being rather groundbound. Doctor MacTaggart suggested I gain a better understanding of mutant abilities by comparing them to engineering that I understand. Flight and aeronautics seem to go hand in hand there. Although I know I will be unable to do 'practical' work for the class as it stands, I will be more than happy to compensate through whatever projects you feel necessary.
Thank you for the opportunity.

Dr. McCoy,
I assume my independent study courses will continue this semester? I have been looking at an ESU course on Evolutionary Design Theory, something that Mr. al-Rashid suggested to me. I'd like to work with that, if I may.
Also, I'll be free this afternoon once I get a small nap, and I'd like to come down and talk.

Mr. Dayspring,
I have to admit that Miss Monroe has painted your history class in a slightly darker light than I was anticipating - I believe the words 'meat grinder' were used. Nevertheless, despite it not being my baliwick, I am up to the challenge.
As for the Humanities course, however, I have no idea what to expect, as it wasn't offered at my old school. Can I get a primer or something before walking in blind Thursday?

Date: 2005-01-11 07:43 pm (UTC)Not a problem. Make sure you coordinate your conclusionary efforts with Dr MacTaggert. Mundane though she may be, there's few better at the science of mutations than her. Anything you need from me/us to make your data capture any easier? We'll start the class off fairly light - a lot of lecture about the science of flight and all that before we start putting the students up into the air. Have to establish the ground rules and all of that.

Date: 2005-01-11 07:49 pm (UTC)Doctor MacTaggart has supplied me with a very capable digital video camera and capture equipment, I've managed to enhance it quite a bit. An idea I had was to fabricate air pressure/windshear sensors that could be worn by fliers, to compare vectored flight - like your own, versus winged flight - like Jay's, versus impelled flight like the telekinetics, versus gliding flight like Miss Monroe.
Though I must admit to no small degree of envy when the rest of the class will eventually take to the air, I am looking forward to the science of flight from a firsthand lecturer's perspective.

Date: 2005-01-11 08:04 pm (UTC)Motion capture would be extremely useful. So would air pressure/windshear sensors. My only concern is that weight is a big issue for some flyers - mostly the "natural" ones like your suitemate Jay. So if you can keep it light, keep it out of the way, and keep it durable I can see how that data could be extremely useful.
Also, the data will need to be kept under a security seal in the Mansion's mainframes. The justifications should be apparent.
Salaam,
Haroun
PS - There's no reason why we can't have one of the stronger telekinetics give you a firsthand taste of flight, you know. Depends on how the class goes.

Date: 2005-01-11 08:06 pm (UTC)All perfectly reasonable. As the class goes on, I should have an idea of what kind of data will be needed, and will provide you with regular progress reports, as well as Dr. MacTaggart.
I understand the need for confidentiality of specific data, of course.

Date: 2005-01-11 08:09 pm (UTC)As for the humanities course, it's a late addition to my timetable and I'm still throwing the syllabus together. Basically, it's going to be a chronologically-organized study of arts, literature, philosophy, religion, and the like, from the prehistoric period onwards. Obviously we will not be dealing in depth with... well, anything. The aim is to demonstrate development of human values over time.

Date: 2005-01-11 11:10 pm (UTC)That should dovetail reasonably well with what I had planned... although we can't start work on that until it gets delivered, which has been delayed until next week. It's still in use right now. (And I promised to return it in working order, so we'll have to be careful with it)
This afternoon is fine, I'll be in my office whenever you're ready.
