Hey,

I got some news from Meggan's physical that you'll be interested in, and the three of us haven't had a meal together since we got back, so do you want to join Meg and me for breakfast tomorrow? Well, it'd be more us joining you, since you're the one with the space and all, but I'll bring the food and the little furry girl who was telling me all about the fun she had with 'Kurdt' the other night. Just seems to me to be the sort of time family looks out for each other, you know?

Amanda.

I had a massively long talk with Alison yesterday about Meggan and other things, and one of the things that came up is that I'm going to have to stop keeping so many secrets. But there's still stuff I don't feel comfortable telling just anyone, but I can tell you.

So, the latest secret. Remy gave me a key the other night, to a safe deposit box that holds everything me and whoever I take with me will need to set up afresh. Basically an escape hatch - he seems to think something bad's coming, and wanted to make sure me and I'm guessing Lorna are safe, plus whoever we get out with us. It's not something I'm thinking of using the next time I flunk a maths test or have a fight with someone, but I know he feels better knowing I have it, and I don't think it's the bad sort of secret to have. But still, I want to do this right, and if that means telling you about this then that's what I'll do.

A.

I would be very happy to. What time do you have in mind?

Eight-thirty it is. And fruit would be welcome, if you have any.

Thank you for inviting me.

He enjoys saddling you with the secrets, doesn't he? Although an extra escape route if things go to hell isn't a bad thing on principle, just keep a couple of things in mind. Firstly, it's not the only escape route you have - the Professor has had what-to-do-in-a-disaster protocols set up for a good long while, given the adverse attention this place has attracted even before our latest big problem. Secondly, if you should ever have to take Remy's and take people with you, you're putting yourself in charge of their well-being. That's a hell of a responsibility, particularly if the worst happens.

I think if I were you, I would concentrate, in a catastrophe, on looking after yourself and Meg first; that's where your primary responsibility lies these days. You can trust the rest of us to do what needs to be done for everyone else.

Thanks for telling me. It is good to know.

Well, you know we're going to do our best to make sure it doesn't come to having to use any of it. So hopefully this is all moot.

That's a good idea, the hide and wait... I don't want you to think I'm encouraging you to be selfish, Amanda, telling you to focus on yourself and her. But she's got to come first, because she can't look after herself. And looking after her may be all that you can realistically do, if the shit hits the fan to that extent.

And I'm being very obvious about where all this is coming from, aren't I?

Just keep her with you, Amanda, if you ever have to run. No matter what - don't leave her for a minute.
