Kitty's going to be making the actual announcement . . . soonishly, next couple days, I think, but figured I'd give you an early heads-up since it's, y'know, your state. Her mentor guy got a job out in Caltech and, y'know, just happened, somehow, absent-minded professor and all, to leave some of her stuff out where the other physics professors could see it, and apparently there was a departmental stampede to the admissions office and threats of mutiny if they didn't lure her out there. Which they did. They're letting her start her master's right away and pick up the bachelor's as she goes along, and damn near paying her to attend, and I keep wondering if we could hold out for a free car or something, they're being so accommodating. So it looks like we're gonna be moving out to California maybe early next month, which seems really fast but not when I stop to think about how much we're gonna have to do when we get there to both have jobs and school and, y'know, a place to live, and stuff. But it feels a little weird.
I'm so proud of her, though.

I am incredibly happy for her--she's going to do so well, though try to tell her that when she's wibbling about it. Heh.
. . . oh, God, Ali's gonna make me interview with Guido, I can just see it now. I'm doomed. Dooooomed.
Hm. Are we talking a free-food kind of pestering, here?

Subject: No, really, wow.
Interview with Guido and probably start at the bottom level of the organization. I intend to laugh at you behind your back for months.
Kitty's never really quite understood how brilliant she is, too many other geniuses around here for comparison. Here's her chance to see it.
Very likely but remember, I learned to cook so that they wouldn't have to. Expect reservations to be all they make.

Well, that's fair, I'm planning on sending you a nice postcard from the beach, sometime in January.
Damn right, and I'm going to make sure she does, if it means framed copies of the peer reviews on her articles. (I have this bet that she gets her doctorate before I get my bachelor's, by the way.)
And the thing about reservations other people make? Still free food.

Oooh, that's just mean. No fair mocking me with my own coast.
I'm thinking she'll have it long before I get my masters anyway.
Yes, that's a very good point.

It's totally fair! You'll be laughing about me behind my back!
I haven't really thought about grad school, myself. I mean, the Pokemon approach to undergrad is kinda enough for right now. ;)
D'you think we could make sneaky party preparations while we're waiting for her to announce the good news?

But that's mocking me to my face!
That's because you're a freak. I have a focused path.
Um, hello, is water wet? You do remember who you're talking to, right?

Yes, which is better than mocking you behind your back, because it's honest, and you know what they say the best policy is.
I'm focused! I'm just, y'know, wide-angle. Panoramic, even.
Um . . . Laura? Lena? It'll come to me in a second. I know this one, honest. Tip of my tongue.

You win this round. But I'll be back! When there aren't beatings!
Encyclopedic.
That's right. My apologies. I'm writing that down right now.

Be sure that you do.

. . . There aren't ever not going to be beatings, are there?
All-inclusive.
You know, you really ought to let the guy with the bust of Athena in his study know where you are. I think he's been worried.

Of course not. Beatings are fun! And they shall continue until morale improves!
Jack of all trades, master of none.
I didn't like him. He was a whiny brat. I don't endorse emo.

Beatings are only fun if you're giving them.
Maybe the seven of all trades. Oh, man, I'm gonna have to do the whole rigamarole with the admissions office of wherever I end up, again, showing them how I can manage to take simultaneous classes. Mannnnnnn . . .
I recommend a restraining order, then, he's been sitting there talking to a bird and I'm pretty sure if he ever leaves the room again he's gonna stalk you.

This time you should tell them that you have a time turner.
I'm pretty sure that I can take him.

My point is, when is it my turn to administer the beatings?
Ssh! Quit it! Kitty's supposed to be the Hermione around here!
Yeah, but he's been sitting in the same chair for a really long time, I bet he's all slimy now. Eew.
