I've already reported in to Munroe and Xavier, but I thought you might like to know--once your brain has stopped trying to dig an escape tunnel and seek asylum in a tropical paradise, anyway--that your protege has made a number of new friends. They haven't told him if they're affiliated yet (and personally I doubt it; puppyish little wannabes at best) but they're certainly sending the right sort of signals. It's a credible lead, and for what I presume is his first serious undercover experience he seems to have done a fairly good job establishing his bona fides.

Congratulate me, I've managed to arrange to have the week off from my house arrest. And once you're done congratulating me, how would you like to drag me shopping? One of the ways I'm celebrating my freedom is treating Crystal to dinner at an upscale restaurant--Le Bernardin, ideally--and I'm still in the process of rebuilding my wardrobe.

And afterward, how would you like to be treated to dinner? Two five-star reservations might be a little difficult to swing inside the week, but perhaps I could tempt you with a little Gypsy restaurant I know in Ohio? It's a hole in the wall, but they do know their food.

That is, of course, unless you have to go do something horrible for work this week.

I have to admit, giving you information is much more convenient when I can simply walk downstairs to your office, rather than leaving cryptic messages in dead-drops. Still, just for old times' sake . . . check your top desk drawer when you have a moment. I've attached the encryption key for the flash drive you'll find there; it occurred to me that the inestimable Agent Cooper might not be the only one interested in what I know about our mutual friend with the claws and the poor dental hygiene. Besides, this way if she's smart enough to call your people in, you can feel all smug at the briefing table when she starts telling you things you already know.

Or, at any rate, I can feel smug about it. Enjoy.
